Balwyn Evergreen Centre has added a new class to its exercise program - Pilates!
Starting Friday, March 7, from 11am-12pm, the class will be led by experienced instructor Joanne Morris and will cater to all fitness levels, offering modifications for standing, chair and mat-based exercises.
Pilates is well known for its benefits in improving balance, flexibility and strength, making it an ideal addition to the Balwyn Evergreen exercise schedule.
For Pilates enthusiast, Amy Struthers, the new class couldn’t have come at a better time.
“I have always been an active person - I’ve done yoga for years; Tai Chi and I also play croquet. However lately, I have had some balance issues due to vertigo and I want to stay strong and flexible,” Amy said.
“I also have arthritis in my knees and hips and have been diagnosed with osteopenia, so I know how important it is to keep moving. Pilates will help me maintain my fitness and balance so I can continue living independently and keeping up with my two grandkids.”
Instructor Joanne Morris is excited to introduce Pilates to Balwyn Evergreen, highlighting its suitability for older adults.
“Raymond and the staff at Evergreen are always looking for new ways to support older adults and we thought, why not Pilates? It’s a safe and effective way to help with strength, balance, flexibility and posture, while also reducing the risk of falls,” Joanne said.
“Our class is designed to be accessible for everyone, with exercises can be done standing, seated or on a mat, depending on what’s most comfortable. Many older adults experience a decline in muscle strength and posture over time, which can lead to falls, so improving core strength, balance and flexibility through Pilates can make a real difference to their overall mobility.”
Tina Hogarth-Clarke, CEO, Balwyn Evergreen Centre, is very pleased to offer another opportunity for older adults to stay active and connected.
“We know how important it is for older adults to remain physically active, not just for their mobility, but for their overall wellbeing. We are excited to welcome Pilates to our exercise program and look forward to seeing our community members enjoy its many benefits.”
Pilates classes will be held every Friday from 11am to 12pm at Balwyn Evergreen Centre.
