If you have a question, then Raymond ‘Raymondo’ Yu will be able to help. It doesn't even have to be related to exercise or BEC, he's always happy to chime in with an answer, joke or pearl of wisdom.
Having fun is all part of the role and one of the main reasons why he's stayed almost 9 years.
“I got into the job by accident and stayed because I enjoyed helping and interacting with people. There's no other place like Evergreen,” Raymond says.
He began his journey at BEC in the Active Living program and as a Bus Outings assistant, which he says allowed him to “see more of Victoria”. As more opportunities arose, Raymond took on responsibilities with the Evergreen Club and front office/admin.
As the Exercise and Compliance Coordinator, he gets the best of both worlds – taking care of BEC's largest program: “I make sure exercise classes run as smoothly as possible. I listen to feedback from instructors and clients and make sure it's a physically and socially beneficial program.”
Raymond also enjoys driving the minivan doing client dropoffs and pickups and puts together a mean morning tea for the men's exercise group.
He mentors volunteers, helps clients and staff with tech issues and gives a quality (and often impromptu) presentation.
In his downtime, Raymond spends time with his mum, walks his dog, Terry, plays video games and goes to movies. And thanks to his initial outings with BEC, he counts day trips with friends as a favourite pastime.
